About Me

Picture
I was born and raised in Memphis so I know what beauty and community this city provides. My experience with different types of photography comes from different aspects of life. From working at Holland Studio as a senior photographer, doing volunteer pet photography for the Humane Society, and having two kids of my own giving me experience with the chaos it involves. I've developed such a nuance with the details and a connection with people with what I do. It's become a large part of who I am and want to continue doing it as long as possible.
I've been a professional photographer since 2011 and have done it full-time since 2015, after my oldest son was born. I also switched to stay-at-home dad life simultaneously. Talk about big life changes! In the midst of having two boys, three dogs plus a foster, working from home, running a business by myself, and living in continued unprecedented times, I love to capture memories for clients and moments to last a lifetime! One more thing, love always wins.

How this works

Picture
We figure out when and where, then I make the camera go snap snap! Kidding, obviously. There are so many things that go into photography, it's difficult to include all of it in text. It's about creating an experience which allows you to be present in the moment and feel comfortable so it translates through the photos. If you're not used to taking photos, there's definitely some awkwardness initially. My job is to help you be at ease for the process. I'll direct you and provide cues to get you moving and engaging. About to get married and need to turn up to get the nerves down? I got you covered.

Want to book a shoot? Contact me! It's that simple to get the process going. I also have a list of locations around town with photo examples if you need help choosing a spot.

What you can expect

Picture
Patience. Lots and lots of patience. That's what it takes to allow things to develop, especially with kids and pets. Weddings require a higher sense of urgency because of the production involved, but I touch on that more with the wedding galleries on here. Photo shoots are still a production regardless. I know you want those perfect "everyone looking at the camera and smiling" photos. You waited until the last minute to put the clothes on the kids so they didn't get dirty on the way there. The real details and moments are in the candids. This is the part where I direct and give cues for you to open up and show the real personalities and emotions. I'm also surprisingly good at noticing details and will fix long hair so it's not all over the place for the posed shots. You won't be wearing hair ties on your wrist and have stuff sticking out of pockets with me around!

Experience

Picture
Have some fun for once, okay? I want you to express yourself because that's what makes the best photos. With me, it's a 100% no-judgment zone. Have a sporadic moment with your loved one, tickle the mess out of your kids, let your dog lick you on the face just this one time. It's part of my job to read body language and convey that through the camera. For family sessions, it's not your job to make your kids and/or pets look at the camera either. There's already enough stress to deal with simply getting to the location on time! If you're stiff and unsure initially, I might have to whip out the dad jokes, so fair warning. In the immortal words of V.I.C., "get silly."

What people Are Saying:

"Phillip is fantastic to work with! I am a local wedding planner in the Memphis area and last night I had the pleasure of working with him. Several times I would hear the bride mention that she needed so-and-so from the bridal suite and every time he said "I've got it!," "I'll go grab it!," etc. He worked very diligently and was extremely professional. He is kind, patient, and you can tell, very passionate about his job. It was a pleasure working with Phillip and I will recommend him to all of my future brides!" -Marleigh
